Snow In The City0
Vancouver is not known for its frequent snow days or mass accumulations of snow, so we get quite worked up when the sky opens up and the snow flakes fall. There are two types of Vancouverites; those that embrace the snow and just loooooove it and those who are cringing at every snowflake and waiting for it to turn into raindrops and disappear. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of middle ground when it comes to snow in Vancouver.
I decided to make Ben’s school holidays start a day early and I kept him home today. Since we didn’t have anywhere to go we decided to embrace the constantly falling white stuff and suited up as best as we could to go outside. Josie had the best snow attire with actual snow pants and proper boots and accessories. Both Ben and I had to make do with rain boots and regular old pants in lieu of anything actually made for snow or that was truly water resistant! How Vancouver of us (ha!). Josie did the classic, ‘I’ve fallen and I can’t get up’ upon trying to make a snow angel and it freaked her out a little bit.
We even attempted to make a condo sized snowman but alas we had no button eyes or hat to complete the look. So, we used some random leaves and twigs and both Ben and Josie were proud of their first snowman. Shortly afterwards I got the cry of the city kids that they were getting cold and wanted to go inside. So we did a short trek to the pie shop around the corner, grabbed some treats and headed back inside to our warm and cozy apartment.
It definitely feels festive when there is a snowfall right before Christmas. For me, the best part is that we have no where to be for the next few days. We can just be cozy and warm in our apartment or a little bit soggy while we play outside in our rain boots.
