It’s True! She’s Two!

January 13, 2014 // Apartment Living, Parenting

I’m not sure what it is really, but I don’t feel as verklempt about Josie turning 2 as I did when Ben turned 2. I absolutely adored the last 2 years with her and I totally love seeing the little girl emerge from my sweet baby Josephine. It might seem silly but we still refer to Josie as ‘baby’ when we talk about her in our family. There is a lot of , ‘where’s the baby?’ or ‘be nice to the baby Ben!’ (also, he always calls his little sister baby too).

When it came time to think about birthday plans for our girl, I knew I wanted it to be low key, low stress and just fun. I’ve found that when I do too much I get all anxious and stressy and I hate it. So, we invited some family and 2 little neighbourhood friends and had a late morning Teddy Bear Picnic at our home. My sister made the cake and cupcakes, we served sandwiches and soup and the kids ate picnic style. The children played a few games and at the very end they decorated their own cupcakes with little pots of pink buttercream icing and all the chocolate sprinkles they wanted.

At 2 years old Josie is a total ham who loves to make jokes. Her latest one goes something this, ‘do you know what?’… you respond ‘what?’ and she greets you with a cheeky grin and says, ‘chicken butt’. No matter how many times she has told us this joke, she always smiles like it is her very first time and it is extremely hilarious. This girl loves to laugh and checks in with you to ask if you are happy.

She loves to sit at the kitchen table and colour, she sings the ABC’s and can count to 5 no problem. The girl knows what she wants and has no problem telling you if you are wrong or she dislikes your opinion. She will wrestle with her brother and will tell you when she needs a kiss.

    Happy birthday!

(Madelaine refers to herself as baby, and Ava can’t believe that her baby sister is two. I have mixed feelings…my baby is no longer a baby but I’m looking forward to her growth and watching her become a pre-schooler. Motherhood is a funny thing.)
